Rodney Copperbottom is a robot who has grown up dreaming of becoming an inventor, he spends his time inventing new things and wants to meet his idol, Bigweld. When he becomes a teenager he decides the time has come for him to leave home and head to the big city where Bigweld has a company and never closes the door on new inventors.
Rodney makes his way to the big city but it is not an easy ride and along the way he meets Cappy, a run down robot who is always thinking of scams and making money. They strike up a friendship but soon leaves each other and head off for their own things. Rodney arrives at Bigwelds factory only to find the doors are shut and things are changing. Can Rodney meet his idol and become the famous inventor he has always dreamed of?
I must confess that both me and hubby have a strong liking for children’s films as they make a refreshing change and are always so easy to watch, this one was no exception. The story for this film was great and I loved how they used robots instead of humans as it gave a new spin on things and more could be done with the characters. The way the story was put across made it very easy to follow especially for younger viewers.
The animation was excellent throughout the film. The robots all looked good and all very different. They were all of different sizes and shapes and for me this was a good thing as it portrayed the fact that all colours and shapes could live together in peace and not be picked on for being different. They were all very well detailed, right down to the facial features and the way they walked and talked and for me it was the detail which really bought them to life. The scenery and sets which were created were all very good and nice and bright so easy to look at and help keep the attention of children. I found the way t
E city was show to be very good and very similar to out human cities. There were a few things which were different and one of the things included the transport they had. I just loved the ride Rodney had when he arrived in the city and thought a lot of work had gone into the making of these scenes. The details were all very good and for me at times I did actually forget that I was watching an animated film.
The characters were all very good, the lead one of Rodney was great and easy to get to know and understand, we got a brief look at his childhood and what he was like growing up and I think this did help us to get to better understanding of him. He appearance was good and he did look friendly. The vocals he had were given by Ewan McGregor and I think he managed to really bring emotion and expression to the animated character by the way he spoke and the elaborations he gave to the way he said and phrased things. Another good character was Bigweld, he looked funny and was a big characters, he was voiced by Mel Brooks and he managed to put a lot of humour into the film with the fun and loud voice he gave to him. Other vocals came from actors, Helle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Drew Carey, Paul Giamatti and Greg Kinnear.
As with most films there are some baddies in this one, they are not scary though, the appearance of them is nothing which may scare young children but I would advise that towards the end of the film there are a few scenes which show mild peril so you may want to distract them slightly on these parts. There really is nothing for children over the age of 5 to worry about in this film and I think they will thoroughly enjoy it and find it quite funny. There is quite a lot of humour in the film and it is not all solely for the children, there were a few small gags which both me and hubby thought were great so I think they have gone for both the young and adult market with this side of the film. There are one or two characters which do make the film very fun to watch and for me it was mainly Cappy who gave us the laughs.
The music in the film was great and suited it very well. It was mainly light and easy to listen to and I do think it helped with the telling of the story and the emotions and slightly drama of what was happening.
I am only reviewing the film so there are no bonus features to speak about. The running time of the film is 91 minutes and I found that the story moved at a good pace from start to finish so it should manage to keep the attention of young viewers, the rate is a U and I do fully agree with this. The film can be bought on DVD for less than £5 now and I do think this is great value for money.
I have no problems in giving this film the full 5 stars. It was enjoyable and entertaining to watch and it is one the whole family can sit down and share together.

Crazy Heart

Bad Blake is a country singer but his life has taken a downwards turn over the last few years. He is now forced to play small gigs and has no record deal. He is a heavy drinker and it is taking its toll on his health. Bad is pleading with his manager to get him a record deal and some bigger gigs but it is not happening.
On arriving at a gig he gets introduced to a young reporter who wants to do a story on him and as a result they find they have a lot in common and enjoy each others company. Bad and Jo Ann start a relationship but this is going to be hard as bad is going back out on the road. He has been given a few larger gigs but he is not happy about the fact he is to be opening shows for his old partner who ditched him and made it to the big time.
Just how will the pressure of these gigs effect Bad and his drinking and what will become of his relationship with Jo Ann? Can this country singer get his life back on track?
I went into this film with no knowledge of it what so ever but the fact that it had a wonderful lead actor in made it seem worth a watch. I found the storyline to be excellent and the way the story was told to us was so engaging and emotional at times. There was no mention as to whether this was a true story or not but I just cold not shake of the feeling that it seemed so real and wondered where the writers got their inspiration from.
The lead role of Bad was played by Jeff Bridges and right from the start of the film he has be mesmerised. He looked great in the cowboy type clothes he wore and the hat looked great on him. He was easily able to get me feeling sorry for him and quite emotional when things went bad for him all the way through the film and for me this is always a sign of a great film. What impressed me the most about his performance was his voice, he did a lot of singing in the film and I was shocked to discover he has such a good voice. He sang the songs so well I was actually toe tapping along for the majority of them and the way he carried himself on stage was very believable. I did have the slight problem of not always being able to understand what he was saying during some of his speeches as his accent and the slurring of his words was quite strong at times. He worked very well with the role of Jo Ann and despite the large age gap they looked good together and they had a very good chemistry. Jo Ann was played by Beth Grant and she too did a great job. I enjoyed the freshness she bought to the story and the fact she got Bad to open up so we could see another side to him.
We did have some other very good actors in the film and the one which stood out for me and did surprise me was Tommy, he was played by Colin Farrell. He looked good with the long hair and clothes that he wore and I was even more surprised when he started singing. He has a great voice which seemed very natural with the style of the songs. Other actors in the film included, Ryan Bingham, Tom Bower and Robert Duvall, they all only really had small parts but they did manage to bring a little depth to the story.
The film was set in a variety of locations as Bad toured around and despite this we did not actually get to see much scenery. We did however get to see a variety of bars and clubs when Bad played. They all looked good and the detail in them was nice but they did all seem to blend into one and there was no real difference in them. The outside shots which we occasionally got were all good and we did have one or two good backdrops. The costumes were another good part of the film and there was a definite cowboy feel to them all. I loved how they wore big hats and had long hair and felt it made the film and story even more believable as there is no way this would have worked so well had the music had a rock or pop feel. Speaking of the music, this was excellent and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it all. There was only country tracks in the film and they were all of a very high standard. The soundtrack was mainly of Bad’s songs which he was performing on stage and I did comment to hubby that it is definitely an album I will be looking to buy.
There are no bonus features to speak about as I am reviewing the film only. The running time of the film is 112 minutes and I fond this to be a great length with the story moving at a steady pace throughout. There is a 15 rate on the film and I do agree with this as there is some swearing and the theme with the drinking is not really suitable for the younger viewer. The film can be bought on DVD for around £7 and I think it is well worth this price and it is currently being shown on Sky movies.
I am more than happy to give this film a very high recommendation and the full 5 stars. The storyline was engaging and the acting was moving and powerful and did pull at my heart strings at times. This is definitely a film for Jeff Bridges fans or anyone who enjoys films with a first class soundtrack.

Brotherly Love
Sam Cahill is a Captain in the US Marines and he is about to go on his fourth tour of duty of Afghanistan. He is leaving behind his family but knows they will be safe and fine without him. Unfortunately for Sam his helicopter gets shot down and he is presumed dead. New of his death reached home and a funeral takes place for him.
Tommy is Sam's brother, he is not very liked by Sam's wife as he is a bit of a naughty boy but he steps in a tries to help grace and the children come to terms with Sam's death and get some normality back into their lives. This is a hard task for Tommy as he has always lived in his brother shadow and he has never been good enough for his father.
Sam was not actually killed when his helicopter came down but he has now been kidnapped by Afghan people along with one of his men. He is being tortured and treated badly but he always has the thought of his family back home to help keep him strong.
Can Tommy remember his place in his brother family and not over step the mark and will Sam ever return home, if he does what impact will it have on these brothers and their relationship?
It was originally over a year ago when I first saw the trailers for this film but I forgot all about it and only recently re saw them and decided to get the film. The trailer made it look very good and interesting and I am pleased to say that it did not disappoint in any way. The storyline for me was a little hard hitting and emotional to watch at times as it hit home for me that I cold quite easily be in Grace's place but the way it was told was excellent. There was no point during the film when I thought it had gone a little to far or become unbelievable and I found the acting helped with the telling of the story and the emotions of what we were watching.
The role of Sam was played by Tobey Maguire and he was very good. He was a typical Marine and looked good and fit, I had to laugh at the haircut though as it was a typical basin cut which all the Marines seem to have in these films. He was a nice and gentle man at the start of the film and he clearly loved his family. I thought he became tough when he put his uniform on and liked the change in his character. He managed to portray both roles well and make them both believable. I did find him slightly harder to watch as the film moved on as he became a completely different character and he was not a nice one. His brother Tommy was played by Jake Gyllenhaal and for me he was definitely the stronger of the two roles. He started out as a layabout who had no real cares and I did enjoy watching him change and grow as the story developed. He looked good and suited the role and he delivered all of his lines with ease and made them believable. He worked very well on screen with Natalie Portman who played the role of Grace. She played a good part and I felt quite close to her and felt all of her emotions, she did a great job of getting them across without over playing them. She was strong yet had her weak moments and I loved seeing how she dealt with them.
We did have a few good and strong support actors in the film and the main ones were the two daughters, Isabelle and Maggie, they were both brilliant and easy to watch. I though they both did a super job with the way they too managed to get their emotions across on screen and I predict a good future for both young actresses. Other actors in the film included, Sam Shepard, Mare Winningham, Patrick Flueger and Carey Mulligan, they were all good roles and they were a good mix of characters.
The majority of the film was set in America and mainly in the home of Grace and Sam, we did get a few outside shots and they were nice to see and fitted well into the film, the other side of the story was set in Afghanistan and these scenes were all very different from the home based ones. We got desert, sand and rocks and hubby said that they showed a good representation of what Afghanistan and the people they were like. It was easy to see where the story was as the two settings were so different. We could clearly see that the scenes were filmed on location as we had no dodgy back drops or sets at all. We did have some very good special effects in the film and they did blend effortlessly into the film. The effects which were used for the violence and brutality scenes was that good that I did have to look away for some of them as they looked that real.
The music for me was not very memorable and I cannot remember a single track which was played, I don't know if this is a good factor as it meant it blended and worked very well or whether it means it was boring and easily forgotten, either way it is not a soundtrack I will be going out to buy.

Today I am reviewing the film, The Men who stare at goats, I do hope you find this of some use.

Bob Wilton is a small town reporter who is trying to get a big story to impress his ex girlfriend. He gets sent to a small story to report on a man who believes he stared at his hamster and killed it. Bob discovers that the guy did stun his hamster and he was once part of a undercover Army corp. called the New Earth Army. Bob gets the names of a few of the other guys who were also part of the corp. so he has investigate the claims.
His investigations do not go to well and he decides to head over to Iraq to try and find some danger and a bigger story so he can impress his ex-girlfriend and try to win her back but as he is not able to get into the country he goes to stay in his hotel. When at the hotel he accidentally meets Lyn Skip Cassidy who he recognises as being part of the Earth Army he was told about. He strikes up a friendship with Lyn and manages to talk him into taking him into Iraq.
The pair set off to Iraq and bob starts to question him about the Earth Army and soon makes some startling discoveries. Just what will Bob discover and what is the real reason Lyn is in Iraq?
I has heard god things about this film and really wanted to watch it so I was very pleased when it came on the TV as it meant I did not have to fork out any money. I have to say that I was slightly disappointed by what we saw and thought that it lacked in comedy despite being classed as one. The storyline was good if not a little far fetched at times and the acting was also very good but for me there was just something missing to make this story seem genuine and more believable.
Ewan McGregor took the role of bob and he did a good job, he took very well to the part and was a nice likable man. He seemed a nervous man around danger and seemed very uncomfortable with some of the things he was being told. He did deliver all of his lines with ease and had a good on screen partnership with the role of Lyn. Lyn was played by George Clooney and he too did a good job with his role. There were a few times during the film when he seemed a little distant and strange but as the story developed we got to understand why this was. I did enjoy seeing the past scenes where George Clooney was made to look a little like a hippy as his appearance and mind frame was very funny.
We did have some very good support roles in the film and some of the actors included, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey and Robert Patrick. We did have a good mix of characters in the film and it made for some diverse and fun viewing.
The film was mainly set a few years ago when the Iraq conflict was at its highest and the settings and scenery for these parts were all very good and fitting. The costumes did not need much work on as they were normal clothes and so to were the vehicles and props. The settings for the Iraq parts of the film were detailed and look authentic and worked and fitted into the film very well. Hubby has been to Iraq and he said they gave a good representation of the country and deserts we got to see. During the film we did get flashbacks to the time when the Earth Army was taking off and the recruits were being trained. We also had good costumes and props for these parts of the film and it meant we were easily able to work out what time zone we were in and not get confused.
The film is classed as a comedy and for me I felt it was lacking n a few big gags. We did have a lot of laughs but they were more subtle ones and I just loved the mentions and references to the Star Wars film which came out a lot in the film. Both me and hubby laughed out loud when Ewan McGregor was being talked to about Jedi code and becoming a Jedi master due to the other films he has been in! We had some noticeable visual gags but they did not happen very often and the majority of the humour came in the form of spoken one liners.
The film had a good soundtrack which was quite mixed. We had modern songs for the present day scenes and old tracks and hippy music for the flash blacks. It did all work very well despite being so mixed. The special effects were also very good and they fitted effortlessly into the film and looked very good.
This is a film only review so there are no bonus features to speak about. The running time of the film is 94 minutes and the rate is a 15. I do agree with this rate and do not think the film is suitable for younger viewers due to the amount of bad language. The film can be bought on DVD for £5 now in a variety of stores and I do think it is worth this price.
Both me and hubby did enjoy this film so I am giving it a good 4 stars and a recommendation. I have had to drop one star due to the fact that some of the storyline is a little far fetched and there was a lack of big gags. This is well worth a watch and the £5 price tag.

We did have a lot of laughs but they were more subtle ones and I just loved the mentions and references to the Star Wars film which came out a lot in the film. Both me and hubby laughed out loud when Ewan McGregor was being talked to about Jedi code and becoming a Jedi master due to the other films he has been in! We had some noticeable visual gags but they did not happen very often and the majority of the humour came in the form of spoken one liners.
The film had a good soundtrack which was quite mixed. We had modern songs for the present day scenes and old tracks and hippy music for the flash blacks. It did all work very well despite being so mixed. The special effects were also very good and they fitted effortlessly into the film and looked very good.
This is a film only review so there are no bonus features to speak about. The running time of the film is 94 minutes and the rate is a 15. I do agree with this rate and do not think the film is suitable for younger viewers due to the amount of bad language. The film can be bought on DVD for £5 now in a variety of stores and I do think it is worth this price.
Both me and hubby did enjoy this film so I am giving it a good 4 stars and a recommendation. I have had to drop one star due to the fact that some of the storyline is a little far fetched and there was a lack of big gags. This is well worth a watch and the £5 price tag.

In my top 3!
Another perfume which was lucky enough to be bought for Christmas is this Ted Baker XO one. I have never really had a favourite one and was pleased to be given a variety to choose from. This is one which is certainly ranking in my top 3 at the moment and I really do enjoy wearing it.
~~BOTTLE~~
The perfume comes in a glass bottle which is a sort of cube shape, this is the best way to describe it although it is not a fat as it is wide. It is a pink coloured glass which is very pleasant to look at as it means we don’t have to look at a wee coloured liquid inside. The top of the bottle is a normal spray trigger and this is covered by a pink plastic lid which does come on and off with ease. On the front of the bottle we have the perfume name in a light pink lettering and on the bottom of the bottle where is a gold coloured section which has the Ted Baker logo on.
~~SCENT~~
I am not very good at being able to describe a scent and all the notes which it has but for me when I first smell this is smells quite woody and musky and I have the immediate thought of wearing it for a night out as it does have a sensual feel to it. I have researched the notes for the perfume and they are:-
Top notes - Sparkling orange blossom
Heart notes - Gardenia, Jasmine, Tuberose, Green undertones
Base notes - Sensual helitrope, powdery musk’s
I was quite surprised when I found and read these as I am not able to smell the majority of these in the perfume. The orange does not stand out at all and neither does the floral. The ones which I can smell are the powdery musk’s and the sensual helitrope’s. The overall feel of the scent is great and it does have a warm and sensual feel.
I have not noticed any changes in the scent of this perfume when I have been wearing it at different times of the month. I have been advised in the past that hormones can affect the scent of a perfume on the skin but this one does not seem to be affected by them fortunately.
~~WHEN TO WEAR~~
As there is the sensual feel to the scent I always think of wearing this one when I am dressed up and going out for the evening. There is also a romantic feel and it think it would be deal for romantic occasions and intimate moments. It could be worn in the daytime but I think it is a little to musky and does not have a light floral feel which I what I prefer as day wear. I think this perfume will be good for all ages and especially people over the age of 30. The younger market may prefer something a little more daring or stronger scented than this one. There is a more understated feel to this scent that is why I think it is for the older side of the market.
~~STAYING POWER~~
I am very pleased to say that this perfume does have good staying power. I have been able to still get a good smell of the perfume when I have been out and wearing it for a good 4-5 hours. I did only initially spray one good spray on my neck and a smaller spray on each of my wrists and did not have to go over board on the application to get the staying power I got. When it is first sprayed it is quite strong but within a few minutes it has mellowed and gone to the lovely musky scent which is not at all overpowering. The perfume also absorbs easily into the skin and is very easy to wash off when you have had enough of it.
~~PRICE AND AVAILABILIY~~
I was bought this perfume as a gift so I am not sure how much hubby paid for it. I have looked on line and found that the 75ml bottle is available for around the £35 mark from a variety of stores. The price may seem slightly high to some but it really is good value for money as you don’t need to spray much for each wear and the staying power is very good. I do recommend shopping around for this perfume to get the best possible price.

YES, I am more than happy to give this perfume a good recommendation. The smell is wonderful and it is more suited for the over 30’s as there is a more understated scent to it. The sensual feel is great for this to be worn on a romantic evening out. A full five starts for this perfume which is now in my favourite top 3.

A Wet suiited hero!
Dave Lizewski is a normal high school student, he does not really fit into any of the groups at school and only really has two good friends. He loves comic books and superheroes and wonders why no normal person has ever tried to be one. He takes it upon himself to try and become a regular superhero.
Kick Ass is born and soon Dave is taking to the street to fight crime. Unfortunately things do not go well and he gets a good kicking resulting in him going to hospital and having several metal plates inserted into his body. After he has recovered he is not disheartened and soon goes back onto the street and becomes in internet success when he help a man who is being beaten by gang members.
When Kick Ass is doing another job who is in danger and gets saved by a young girl called, Hit Girl, he soon discovers that he is not the only superhero in town and he is invited to help Big Daddy and Hit Girl.
Just how far can Kick Ass go before being revealed and will he become the superhero he has always dreamed of?
I have been wanting to see this film for quite some time now as the trailers made it look really good, I am pleased to be able to say that it did not disappoint me at all and both me and hubby really enjoyed it from start to finish. The storyline was good and it did seem quite original with the fact that we had a normal boy who was not bitten by a spider of radioactive waves to make him have special powers and he had to train to become good at what he did. The acting was another great part of the film.
The lead role of Kick Ass / Dave was played by Aaron Johnson and he for me was an excellent choice. He looked geeky and not the normal choice of a superhero and I think this helped to make the storyline slightly more believable. He delivered all of his lines with ease and seemed to genuinely believe in what he was saying. I enjoyed the normal side of his life which we got to see, where he was struggling with the girls and this did bring some normality to the storyline. He worked well with the props and stunts he had to do and he made them look fun and quite cool. We had another good superhero Hit girl, she was played by Chloe Mortez. I thought she did a fantastic job and for me was the real star of the film. She looked like a normal sweet girl when not in costume and when she was in costume it really did suit her and she seemed very natural playing this hard hitting side. She too delivered all of her lines with ease and they were natural, she did seem a little to cocky when working with the weapons but this just showed how she had been raised and bought up by her father Big Daddy. Nicholas Cage played the role of
Big Daddy and he too played a good role. I thought he was tough on his daughter at times but we got to understand a little more about his background as the story moved on and this helped me to understand why he was like he was.
We did have some good support roles in the film and actors included, Clark Duke, Evan Peters, Mark Strong and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, he played the role of Red Mist and he did bring a lot of humour to the film.
The film is a comedy and for me it was quite mixed, we did have some very ibvio0s laughs and they did make both me and hubby laugh out loud but a lot of it was small things which happened and they were good but not overly obvious. You really do need to watch this film and know it is a sort of Mickey take and not a serious film and then you will find the whole thing quite funny and enjoyable to watch. Despite this being a comedy there is a lot of violence in it and so it is not a film I will be letting my boys watch despite there love of superhero movies. We do have a lot of action and fighting and it was all produce to a high standard and fitted very well into the story and funny element. The weapons which were used all looked good and all the people working with them seemed at ease and to know what they were doing with them. Even the young actors worked well and seemed at ease shooting at people.
The music was all modern and fitted into the film very well, it helped to add to the drama and tension of the film, it is not a soundtrack I would go out and buy separately but it worked well on this film. The costumes were all very good and the normal clothes did not require much thought at all. The superhero costumes were excellent and really fun, the way some of them were based on the big superheroes worked well and added to the humour side of the story.

I am not a fan of bonus features so I have not watched these and therefore unable to make comment on how good or not they are.
We bought the DVD for just under £7 from Amazon which I felt was a good price, I would not be prepared to pay a higher price for it. The running time is 1hour and 53 minutes and the rate is a 15. I fully agree with the rate as there is a lot of violence in the film.

New Moon
Bella and Edward have a good relationship but it has its problems, this is due to the fact Edward is a vampire. He loves Bella and has no desire to hurt her but his feelings are getting stronger. He celebrates Bella’s birthday with the rest of his family but his younger brother cannot help himself and goes for Bella.
As a result of the attack the Collins family decide it would be best if they moved away and away from Bella. Bella is distraught at the thought of loosing Edward but he believes it is for her own safety so goes. Bella is upset and hurt and keeps thinking she sees Edward when she is out and about.
Jacob is taken with Bella and hates to see her sad and as a result the pair start to spend more time together which leaves them starting to have feelings for each other. Will Edward return to Bella or will she eventually fall in love with Jacob and just what is Jacob hiding from her?
I absolutely loved the first film so was eager to watch this one and I have to say it did not let me down. The storyline was excellent and so to was the acting. I enjoyed how deeper this story seemed to be as the characters had also been introduced to us and we got a good understanding of who and what they were. The fact Edward was not so central during parts of this film was also very good as it let others come to the front and we were able to get to know them a lot better.
My favourite character in this film was Jacob, played by Taylor Lautner, he was strong and looked amazing. He showed strength and ease in the way he came across and delivered all of his lines with ease. I was pleased we got to know more about him and where he was from in this film as it gave him a lot more depth. There was a good chemistry between him and Bella and although it started out to be a little strained it did grow and I could see some lovely friendship and feelings developing. Bella, played by Kristen Stewart, was again very good in her role in this film and she showed a lot more strength and came across as stronger and less naive. She was great in how she expressed her emotions and at times I was feeling very sorry for her. She has a lovely simmering and hot partnership with Edward and this was a joy to watch as it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.
Edward was also great in his role, he was played by Robert Pattinson. He looked good and played the part with ease. I thought he did a super job in the way he expressed his love and feelings for Bella and it was much stronger and noticeable than in the previous film. We had some very good ad strong support characters in this film and the ones which stood out for me were, Billy Burke as Charlie, Anna Kendrick as Anna and Justin Chon as Eric and Ashley Greene as Alice, they all did great jobs with their characters and made them very believable and did manage to give the storyline some depth.
The film was mainly set in Forkes, a small town and enjoyed the portrayal of the way of life there, it all seemed so much slower than the normal big cities and t was enjoyable to watch. I found the views we got over the countryside and forests around the town were amazing and they really were a pleasure to see at times. The costumes were all in keeping with the film and the place setting and they all looked good. The music was suitable but nothing special and definitely not an album I will be buying.

The effects used for the way the Vampires moved were good and realistic and I enjoyed seeing how the other animals and creatures behaved and looked due to the effects which were created for them. There were no times during the film when I noticed a badly added backdrop of poor effect and I do give a lot of credit to the team who produced these.
